Strand 3: IT Systems
The terminology, concepts and tools relating to specified ITdevelopments

3.1 Hardware
Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides instructions for the hardware to accomplish tasks.

3.2 Software
Software is a generic term for organized collections of computer data and instructions, often broken into two major categories: system software that provides the basic non-task-specific functions of the computer, and application software which is used by users to accomplish specific tasks.

3.3 Networks
Networks are very important in ITGS because business, homes, schools, organizations, and more are all connected by networks. You will need to know the basic roles of networks when taking this course.

3.4 Internet
A global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols

3.5 Personal and Public Communications
A multistep, multidirectional process in which messages are disseminated to a broad, and sometimes undifferentiated, audience through complex networks of active transmitters.

3.6 Multimedia/ Digital Media
An extension of hypertext allowing the provision of audio and video material cross-referenced to a computer text

3.7 Databases
A structured set of data held in a computer, esp. one that is accessible in various ways

3.8 Spreadsheets, modeling and simulations
A computer program used chiefly for accounting, in which figures arranged in the rows and columns of a grid can be manipulated and used in calculations

3.9 Introduction to Project Management
A management method, otherwise known as the knowledge and understanding of the product development life cycle.

3.10 IT Systems in Organizations
This topic builds onto the concepts introduced in "Introduction to project managment" and provides students with a more in-depth understanding of the development of IT stsyems.

3.11 Robotics, Artificial Intellegience and Expert Systems
Due to the increasing capability of IT systems, it has allowed developers to implement systems that attempt to imitate human behavior.

3.12 Information Systems Specfic to the Annually Issued Case Study
